Mrs. Arden [sic] Eamer
Funeral service for Mrs. Arden Eamer, 83, a native of Avonmore and formerly of Rupert's Nursing Home, Newington was held February 18 from Brownlee's Funeral Home where Rev. Durrett of St. Mark's Anglican Church officiated. He was assisted by Rev. Bert Loree of st. Mark's United Church Lunenburg.
Mrs. Eamer, predeceased by her husband Arden, died February 16 at Winchester Memorial Hospital.
She leaves four sons, Ross, Earl, Sterling and James; Mrs. Nola Crossman and Mrs. Bruce Alguire (Lillia). [sic]
She was predeceased by a brother and three sisters.
Mrs. Eamer lived in the Eighth Concession of Cornwall Township all her married life. She was a member of Dixon Women's Institute and St. Mark's United Church Women.
Pallbearers - all grandsons - were Brian Eamer, Brent Eamer, Robert Eamer, Michael Eamer, David Eamer, and Blair MacKenzie.

Sadie E. Eamer
A 4-year resident of the Ruppert Nursing Home, Newington, Sadie Ethel (Tinkess)Eamer, died in the Winchester and District Memorial Hospital on Sunday February 16th. She was aged 83 at the time of passing. [1975]
Born at Avonmore, Ontario, Mrs. Eamer was predeceased by her husband Arden E. Eamer.
Relatives left to mourn the loss include two daughters, Mrs. Nola Crossman of Avonmore and Mrs. Bruce Alguire (Lillian) of Avonmore; four sons Ross of Moose Creek, Earl of Avonmore, Sterling of Lunenburg and James of Lunenburg. She was predeceased by one brother and three sisters.
Funeral services were held in the chapel of the Brownlee Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, Rev. Durrett and Rev. Loree officiated. The body was placed in the vault to await interment in the Spring in St. Lawrence Union Cemetery.
Pallbearers were all grandsons, Brian, Brent, Robert, Michael and David Eamer and Blair MacKenzie.

Saidie was 5' 3" tall, with dark wavy brown hair, and blue eyes. She loved gardening, and making things with rocks and stones. She made outdoor fireplace, birdbath, sundial, garden house, and stone fence, and these were all still there on the property in 1984. She suffered with heart attack, diabetes, and finally stroke. In one part of Vicki Kenton's book, I believe it said she died at Brownlee Nursing Home in Cornwall on 15 Feb 1975, but I've never heard of that nursing home, (I think they meant she was laid out at Brownlee Funeral Home in Finch) and her obit says she died 16 Feb 1975 in Winchester Hospital, so I believe that is more accurate.

MAXVILLE - The marriage of Miss Lily Ernestine McEwen, R.N., Ottawa, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest A. McEwen, Maxville, to Daniel William Munro, son of W. A. Munro and the late Mrs. Munro, Apple Hill, took place quietly Saturday afternoon at four o'clock, at the United Church Manse. Rev. J. H. Hamilton officiated.
The witnesses were Miss Florence Munro, Apple Hill, and Leslie West, of Montreal.
A powder blue Redingote ensemble, a Madagascar Panama hat and shoes and gloves in cream and brown were worn by the bride. Her corsage bouquet was of Briarcliffe roses and forget-me-nots.
Following the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Munro left on a motor trip to the Georgian Bay District and points in Western Ontario.
On their return, they will reside at Apple Hill.

Steward Montgomery Crawford of Strathmore died suddenly at home Wednesday, October 18, 2000 in his 83rd year.
He was born in Monkland February 9, 1918 and was the son of the late John B. Crawford and the late Emma Hill.
Steward was the beloved husband for 56 years of Dorothy Helmer.
Steward Crawford was the cherished Grandpa to Sherry (Mike) and Jason Crawford, Adam Crawford, Erin Crawford and Nickolas Crawford, Ryan (Jen) Shields, Robin (Eric) McDonell, Megan Shields and Kirsty and Rory Buchan.
He was the brother-in-law of Beryl Crawford, Lunenburg and Dorothy Crawford, P.E.I. and is survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by six brothers: Basil, Robert, Wilbert, Gordon, Forbes and Milton and sisters-in-law Elizabeth, Eloise, Isobel and Edna.
Steward was rested at Munro & Morris Funeral Home in Maxville from Friday until the time of his funeral on Saturday, October 21, 2000 at the Zion United Church in Apple Hill at 2 p.m. with Rev. Martha ter Kirile officiating.
His son-in-law Bill Shields and his niece Sue Dernoyers had a eulogy on Steward's life. Paddy Kelly sang How Great Though [sic] Art accompanied by Ruth-Anne McPherson. The Apple Hill choir with a number of his old friends from the Stormont Choir sang two hymns.
Pallbearers were five grandsons and a nephew; Ryan Shields, Adam Crawford, Nickolas Crawford, Jason Crawford, Rory Buchan and John Crawford.
Interment was in the North Branch Cemetery.

Dr. Delbert McKercher, 74, professor emeritus in veterinary microbiology at the University of California at Davis, died Sunday in a Davis hospital after a long illness.
A native of Canada, Dr. McKercher started teaching at Davis in 1949 and retired in 1983. He earned several degrees in Canada and then took his doctorate at Cornell University.
He was among the first doctors to isolate viral diseases in the United States, France, Italy, Germany, South America and Kenya.
He was a National Institute of Health Research Fellow. In 1978, he was named a lifetime member of the French Veterinaire et de L'Academie de Sciences.
Dr. McKercher is survived by his wife, Georgina, of Davis; a son, John, of Tucson; two daughters, Ann, of San Mateo, and Mary Jamison, of Davis; a brother, Thomas, of Ontario, Canada, and a sister, Grace Sweet of Montreal.
A memorial service will be held on December 1 at 4 p.m. at Davis Community Church. Donations in Dr. McKercher's name to the scholarship fund, Office of Public Programs, 1018 Haring Hall, University of California, Davis 95616, are preferred.

The village lost one of its oldest citizens who was enjoying an independent lifestyle in her own home prior to a short illness. She was Ethel MacKinnon who was 96 years old, and a real gracious and lovely lady.
We extend our condolences to her two daughters-in-law and the other members of the extended families and to Lorna Blair who had been a devoted next-door neighbor over the years.
One of Mrs. MacKinnon's three sisters-in-law at the Manor is Olive Ferguson who celebrated her 93rd birthday on March 1. Mrs. Ferguson is the widow of Martin who was the postmaster and storekeeper in Dunvegan for many years. In later years she lived in Ottawa.
She is remembered as a member of the United Church here and another old memory that this correspondent has is of Mrs. Ferguson, perhaps as Olive Hall, playing the violin at the lawn socials. We wish her well.

MacKercher, formerly of Moose Creek. Predeceased by her husbands D. D. Ferguson and D. J. Ethel married Dan Ferguson, and went to Los Angeles to live. Two years later, Dan died, leaving an only son Donald. Ethel later married Jack MacKinnon from Dunvegan. They lived in the U.S. for many years, returning to Ottawa, ON, when Jack joined the Army. After the war, they settled in Moose Creek in 1947 where Jack opened a wood working shop. In 1958, owing to ill health, they moved to Daytona Beach, Florida. Ethel and Jack had two sons Hillman Donald, and Bruce. In 1979, Ethel returned to Maxville and in 1981, she bought her sister Nellie's house on Peter St., and continues to live there. (1990)

General Notes: Dwight was killed in WWII on the USS Houston battleship/cruiser. There was a Japanese surprise attack on a fleet of ships. Houston and Perth sailed into Banten Bay to destroy what they could of the Japanese fleet. On 28 Feb 1942 the USS Houston sank. There were only a few survivors that became prisoners of war. Houston's fate was not known by the world for almost 9 months, and the full story of her courageous fight was not fully told until after the war was over and her survivors were liberated from prison camps.
Only 368 of the total complement of 1011 men of the USS Houston managed to reach shore. The remaining 643 shipmates, including their skipper, Captain Rooks, went down with the ship. Within a few days, all the survivors became prisoners of the Japanese.
Dwight's naval rank at time of death was GM2C. His wife ended up in San Antonio, TX

CHARLES CITY - John W. Aird, 88, of 2625 210th St., died Saturday morning (July 3, 1999) at his home.
Funeral services for John Aird will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., With the Rev. Diane Christopher, senior pastor of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City, officiating. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Memory Gardens, south of Charles City.
Visitation was held Monday at the Hauser Funeral Home, and will continue from 9 a.m. until time of services today.
John William Aird was born Jan. 5, 1911, in Plymouth County, Seney, IA, the son of William M . and Lydia Whitman Aird. He attended school at Orchard and graduated from Floyd High School in 1930. On Oct. 16,1935, he and Doris Bucknell were married at Charles City.
He was employed by the McRoberts Dodge Garage for 10 years, owned and operated the Ellendale Dairy, in partnership, until 1965, and retired from Salsbury Laboratories in 1976.
John was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, the Farm Bureau, and the Modern Wood men of America. He was a member of the CharlesCity Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years, serving as assistant chief. He was also a member of the IA Fireman's Association.
John was an avid sportsman, enjoying fishing and hunting. He followed theCharles City Comettes' softball team for many years. Following his retirement, he delivered both Meals on Wheels and library books to shut-ins.
Living family members include his wife, Doris, of Charles City; a daughter, Karla Breed, of Le Grand; two sons and their wives, Alan and Colleen, of Floyd, and Andy and Lori, of Charles City; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Jean and Ed Clark, of Minneapolis, Irene Kobernus, of New Richland, Minn., and Dorothy Raskob and Mary Eckhoff, both of Charles City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, and a sister, Lois Merten.

Irene died at her home in Owatonna on Wednesday, March 30, 2005.
Irene was born in Orchard, Iowa on May 28, 1915, the daughter of William M. and Lydia Ann (Whitman) Aird. She graduated from Floyd, Iowa High School.
On March 18, 1939 Irene was united in marriage to Francis Kobernus. They started farming in Iowa and later settled on a farm outside of New Richland in 1954. They were members of the First Congregation Church of New Richland where Irene was active with Ladies Aid and Unit.
Irene had been a 4-H leader for many years, belonged to card clubs and enjoyed playing bingo. She was also a member of the Waseca Eagles.
Survivors are three children: Sharon Halverson, Nancy Bratton, both of Owatonna and Bill Kobernus of Minneapolis; one grandson, David Bratton of Sacramento, California; three sisters: Dorothy Raskob of St. Michael, Minnesota, Jean Clarke of Eden Prairie, Minnesota and Mary Eckhoff of Charles City, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Francis; one son, Bob Kobernus; one granddaughter, Angela Halverson; one sister, Lois Merton and one brother, John Aird.

Bessie received her education at Cherry Grove School. She was an excellent student and won the Silver Medal in The Free Press spelling contest in Winnipeg in 1921 when she was 11 years old. After working out for a number of years, she married Norman Sweet and moved to a farm north of Moosomin. Later they moved to a farm east of Moosomin. She was an active member of the Moosomin Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for a number of years and was at one time President of the Women's Missionary Auxiliary. She was also active in the Moosomin Agricultural Society.
In 1953 they sold out and moved to Sarnia, On. Bessie worked in the Zeller's store and later was receptionist for a podiatrist. In 1971 they moved to London, On., where she became office manager in her son Earl's chiropractic office until she retired.
Bessie was a member of First Baptist Church in London and a member of a senior's club.
The Memorial Service was held in First Baptist Church, London on Saturday, January 20, 1990, with Dr. Ralph J. Cummings officiating. After cremation, the burial took place in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, London, On.

Mel, second son of the late Henry and Margaret Begg, was born on the family farm in Archie Municipality near McAuley Mb. in 1914. He moved with his parents to the Stanley District in 1926 and came to Moosomin in 1937. He married Mildred Byrne, daughter of the late Jim and Jean Byrne, in 1939. Uncle Mel had auburn hair when he was younger, but was balding by the time of his passing. He had blue eyes. It was said he looked just like his grandfather Alexander J. "Dan" Begg.
Mel was employed by Allan Hodgins in the express and dray delivery, and by the late C.J. Wilde on coal delivery. in 1955 Mel purchased the C.P. Express Delivery Service and served the community for 23 years. The latter six years, Mel acted as C.P. Representative for the Moosomin station, as the agents were removed from many stations.
Mel was a charter member of the Elks Lodge and held an Honorary membership.
Millie is a charter member of the Royal Purple Lodge, a Past Honored Royal Lady of the Lodge. She is very active in golfing, curling and played for the Moosomin Aces Ladies Softball team for many years as a pitcher. She worked as a sales clerk for 18 years.

Uncle Stan worked at Weyburn, Sk. for a time before enlisting for service in World War II. He and Aunt Betty were married in the Stoke-Kinnington Registrar's Office, London, England. He was overseas for 5 1/2 years. Stan was overseas for about 5 1/2 years in active service in W.W. 2. He returned to Canada for a year and a half, then returned to Scotland about 1946 for a time. After returning from Scotland, Uncle Stan, Aunt Betty, Phyllis and Allan lived in Weyburn, Sk. for a short time. I think Sandra was born after they left Weyburn. They later moved to the Ottawa, On. area where Uncle Stan worked at the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa for many years. After he retired from the Mint he bought a small farm near North Gower, On., (about 1/4 section in size).

Lila met and married Albert Addison, after he moved to Canada from England. Together they had a very busy life, raising seven children in the McAuley area.
Lila and Albert had lots of friends and family. There were always people dropping in and out at the farm, and when they moved to McAuley in 1965. They loved to dance and used to attend dances at Cherry Grove School. After dad passed away, mom loved visiting family and friends and travailing whenever she had a chance. She loved helping people, and growing flowers - especially roses.
Lila was predeceased by her parents Edith and William Wood, her loving husband Albert in 1979, daughter Myrtle Miller, grandchildren, Nova Prouten, and Brent Gara, and great-granddaughter Kira Hanson. Also predeceased by six brothers and two sisters, seven brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law in England, three brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law in Canada.
Lila is survived by her children, Margaret Friesen, Fred (Linda) Addison, Alex (Ev) Addison, Irene Prouten, Gladys (Don) Henson, Carol (Ralph) Gara, son-in-law, Fred Miller, twenty grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, one sister, two sisters-in-law here and four in England.
Mom's family was her life. May she rest in peace.

HARRY WILFRED WOOD March 23, 1921 - April 30, 2005 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Harry Wood on Saturday, April 30, 2005 at the Concordia Hospital at the age of 84. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Maurise; children, Ken (Jeannette), Linda (Darrell) Slinowsky and Diane Williams (Al Miller). Also left to cherish his memory are grandchildren, Celeste, Nicole, Tera and Zachary. He is also survived by two sisters, Lila and Dorothy (Gordon Williscroft); sister-in-law Margaret Wood; brothers-in-law, Mark Flynn and Johnny Johnston and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents William and Edith Wood; brothers and sisters and spouses, Alex (Jenny), Clarence (Irene), Mervyn, Vincent, Leighton, Edith (Norman) and Retta. Also predeceased by brothers-in-law, Albert, Nels, Bill; sisters-in-law, Lorna, Kathleen and Sandra. Harry was born and raised on the family farm near Moosomin, SK, the youngest of 10. He married Maurise Flynn on October 23, 1941. Dad and Mum grew up together. He joined the RCAF in 1942. Shortly after the war he farmed near McAuley, MB where they raised son Ken. They moved to Winnipeg in 1951 and eventually settled in Transcona where, after 17 years, they added to their family with two daughters in two years, Linda and Diane. He worked at the CPR and then with the RCMP until his retirement in 1986. Dad and Mum travelled to such places, Las Vegas, all across Canada, Florida and Hawaii ( God's country as Dad would say). They spent many summers at their cottage at Lester Beach with their little dog Heidi. He was an active Legion member. Dad enjoyed watching sports on television, particularly curling, golf and hockey. Through the years he was on several bowling teams. He was an avid golfer right up until his death. When not golfing, he loved spending time with his family. He was especially proud of his three granddaughters and his only grandson. We are glad you are finally out of pain Dad. Go now in peace. We miss you and love you and will see you again. A celebration of Dad's life will be held on Wednesday, May 4 at 11:00 a.m. at the Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave. West, Winnipeg. His death came at his home in Utterson on July 11th.
Curtis was born on July 3rd, 1913 in Moosemin, Saskatchewan. On May 10th, 1941, he married a woman named Blanche, in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba.
The couple had two sons and one daughter.
Curtis leaves his wife, Blanche, son Curtis and his wife, Nicola, son Alan, and his daughter, Carol-Ann Casselman.
Also left to mourn him are his grandchildren, David, Stacy, Sara and her husband, David, Curtis and Casey.

Alison was an avid gardener, she delighted in nature, and shared many years at her cabin in the Cloquet Valley State Forest with family and friends. Alison was a champion of women's rights in the workplace. Alison advocated alternative medicine and healing while using the best that western medicine had to offer. In recent years, Alison lived at Chris Jensen Nursing Home. Alison departed the world at the Solvay Hospice House. Her family thanks both for their devoted care. Alison was preceded in death by her mother and father; first husband, Kirwin Kinsela; second husband, Lyle Winters; beloved son, David Kinsela; great-grandson, David Kinsela III; dear companion, E. Wallie Johnson; son-in-law, Andy Fankell; two sisters, Margaret and Dorothy; brother, Robert 'Budd'; and many dear friends and guides. Dorothy was my aunt. I knew her mostly when I was a child. I recall that she was very attractive and fun to be with. She was always nice to all of us as kids. I remember that she had this old trunk that went back to the revolutionary war. She told us a story that our family lived in Canada at that time and that they thought that it would be great sport to go south in a sleigh and see, first-hand, the Yanks and the Brits getting into it. She added that the family came across a wounded British solder dying in the snow, so they put him in the sleigh and took him back to Canada with them. Evidently he recovered and married one of the daughters. She said that the trunk was his from the British Army, and that he was an ancestor of her mother Montana West, who was my grandmother.

On April 12, 1994, Robert F. Grant passed away at the Cornwall Hospital at the age of 43 years. Robert Grant of R.R. 1, Long Sault was predeceased by his father, Calvin Grant. Missed by his wife, Ilona Haugen Grant, his children, Warren, Steffan and Vanessa, his mother, Mrs. Grace Grant, his brothers Hugh and Bruce Grant and his sister, Mavis Wert and their families. Allan R. Hough, 75, of Utica, passed away March 11, 2005 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He was born on March 29, 1929 in Remsenburg, Long Island, New York, the son of Henry and Mary (Gunn) Hough. Allan was a United States Air Force veteran, serving from 1946 to 1949. Surviving are one son, Allan R. Hough, Jr., North Carolina; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Elva and John Christopher, Wisconsin, Grace Peterson, New Jersey, Mildred Noggle, New Hartford; one brother and sister-in-law, Ashton and Elizabeth Hough, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Allan was predeceased by his brother, Wilfred Hough and one sister, Naomi Zion. Funeral services will be Monday at 7:00 p.m. from Nunn & McGrath Funeral Directors, 470 French Road, Utica. Interment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park.
