Pay list for Nov 1838 shows James worked for 4 days, and Stewart worked for 7 days, and Alex Begg worked for 3 days and they were paid one shilling per day in Halifax currency.

Robert Begg was a farmer, contractor, and saw-mill owner. Susanna was a homemaker. Susanna McCallum married her uncle's, half-brother. Robert Begg is a half-brother of James Begg
In 1869. he was living on the north 1/2 of Lot 23, Concession 5. Robert and Susanna Begg moved with their family from Moose Creek, Roxborough Twp, Stormont County, Ontario to Bruce County, Ontario in 1868. They farmed on the S 1/2 of Lots 6 and 7, Con 2 in Bruce Twp, Bruce County. Robert Begg was issued the crown deed for this property in 1876. This land still remains in the Begg family. The owners of this property have been: 1876 - 1904 Robert Begg, File # 4d; 1904 - 1938 William Andrew Begg, File # 4dc; 1938 - 1963 Robert Ewing Begg, File # 4dca; 1963 - Grant Henderson Begg File # 4dcac.
Robert Begg built a log house for his family in 1870. A barn (32 X42 feet) was erected between 1870 and 1876. During the erection of the barn, robert fell off the roof and broke his leg. After this accident, the injured leg remained shorter than his "good leg". About two years after arrival in Bruce County, Robert and his family moved to lot 4, concession 12, Kincardine Twp. Here, the children attended Tiverton public school. In 1876, Robert moved to lot 7, concession 1, Bruce Twp. This property contained a log house and a barn. While placing a foundation under the barn, Robert was kicked by a horse and once again broke his leg. When Robert Begg moved onto lots 6 and 7 of concession 2 in 1869, there was only five acres of cleared land. By 1876, there was 50 acres of cleared land. Over the years, the Begg family cleared the property. Today, the 200 acre farm has only 25 acres of bush.
Milk was a major source of income for the Begg family. The local cheese factory hired men to pick up the milk at the farmer's gate. Each farmer erected a milk stand at the road. For many years, James and Robert begg did not have a milk stand. They bribed the milk collector into picking up their milk at the barn yard. For this service, the bribe was two bags of oats. When the milk collector changed jobs, the Begg boys were unable to negotiate an appropriate bribe for the new collector, so it became necessary to erect a milk stand at the roadside.
